Tonawanda and Tuscarora Nation cover the north and west, with Tonawanda straddling the Canadian border at Akwesasne. Shinnecock on Long Island is the outlier — the only significant cluster in the east of the state.
For anyone driving from Buffalo, Rochester or the Southern Tier, the Seneca territories are the practical destination. From the North Country, Akwesasne is closer.
